Introducing Days of Defiance
After almost 5 years in development, we are happy to announce the first game developed and published by ROBO POETS: Days of Defiance, a turn-based tactics game like the ones they used to make. Keep reading to learn more about the game or head straight to your favorite storefront to wishlist the game at Steam or the Epic Games Store.
The game takes place in the fictional country of Escalia. A tyrannical government, led by the Atwater siblings John and Jenna, oppresses the population and strikes at any form of dissent with violence and terror. You control a group of mercenaries hired by the local resistance to bring an end to their regime once and for all.
In order to do so, you will have to hire fighters that you control in teams of up to six members. You can hire as many fighters as you need … as long as you have the money to pay them, that is. They come with different skills and specializations that are suited for different play styles and allow you to approach combat in very different ways. Be careful, though! These mercs have personalities, and while some of them get along just fine, others hate each other and may even outright refuse to work together.
Your objective is clear: free the country. How you go about it is completely up to you, the entire map is open to you from the beginning. Take it step by step or march on the capital right away. Build alliances and support among the locals or ignore everyone’s plea for assistance and stay laser-focused on your task. Recruit an army or take one on all by yourself. No one tells you how to do your job, the choice is yours.
No war is won on the battlefield alone, though. If you want to prevail, it is not enough to win a fight, you need to keep the big picture in mind. Plan ahead, fortify liberated towns, train locals to become an efficient militia, cut off enemy supply lines, secure income streams to fund your operation and hire more mercenaries. Every town reacts to your actions individually and the locals celebrate your victories just as much as they hold you accountable for your screw-ups.
Combat is turn-based and plays differently based on your team’s abilities and loadout. A fighter who’s adept at lock picking can open up access to a good vantage point for an ambush. Someone who’s good with knives can dispose of enemies without alerting the entire sector. Dual wielders deal massive damage to anyone who gets too close while medics keep everyone alive when things go sideways. You can use smoke grenades to hide your movement or traps to alert you to enemies in the area.
Escalia is home to a wide range of environments, from rocky beaches in the south to mountainous forests in the north. You can visit once idyllic towns like Teroma, which has been wrecked by years of civil war and is home to the last remnants of the resistance movement. Large cities like Sundville with its many casinos and shady night clubs seem to thrive in these uncertain times and attract all kinds of patrons of questionable repute.
Derelict amusement parks and abandoned wind farms tell a tale of a nation that has seen better times. A well-guarded underground facility harbors a dark secret that can turn the tide of this war. Exploring these areas will yield interesting gear, new side quests, and sometimes even recruits for your ever-growing band of freedom fighters.
We’re currently aiming at a release late this year, but this might change in accordance with our company policy if we find that more time is needed to put out a polished product. Until then, you can see more of the game on the official website:
